The Weather in Tenerife 20th December to 26th December

The Spanish Meteorological Office (AEMet) more or less got their predictions right for Christmas week and Christmas Day was an absolute beauty across Tenerife with clear blue skies and warm temperatures all day. With snow on Mount Teide it was almost the perfect Xmas Day weather. The rest of the week had been more of a mix as forecast with the sun shining mainly in the morning with some cloud rolling in during the afternoon.

Just like recent weeks, some areas experienced little or no rain despite it being forecast for most days.

The Weather in Tenerife 27th December to 2nd January

Not a great difference in the weather forecast for Tenerife New Year week. A mix of sun and cloud everywhere with a slight chance of rain on most days, but even then there should be plenty of sunshine as well. Rainfall is most likely on Tuesday. Temperatures have dropped from the unseasonable highs of recent weeks in some areas (south west and north coasts) to the more usual 23/24C. Good news for anyone visiting the island for New Year is that the weekend should be dry and sunny.

Weather in South Tenerife – A mix of sun and cloud all week with less cloud and more sun by the weekend. There’s between a 5 and 75% chance of rain every day. Temperatures should be around 24C.

Weather in North Tenerife – More or less exactly the same as the south, but with slightly more chance of rain (between 10 and 85%). Temperatures should be around 23C.

Weather in East Tenerife – The only coastal area where rain isn’t forecast for today, but after that it’s the same as everywhere else with between a 10 & 65% chance of rain on other days. Like everywhere else there will be a mix of sun and cloud all week and temperatures should be around the 24C mark although they may drop slightly for the weekend.

Weather in South West Tenerife
– As is often the case, the forecast for the south west mirrors exactly that of the south (not always the case in reality as recent weeks has shown). Temperatures should be around 24C.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater
– A sunny week for the crater and the summit of Mount Teide with the only chance of cloud being Thurs and Friday morning. It should be breezy Tuesday and Wed in the crater floor increasing to strong winds on the summit so check whether the cable car is running if visiting on those days. It is operational at the moment. Temperatures are rising slightly in the National Park averaging 10C in the crater and 0C on the summit.

The 10C might sound ‘fresh’ but after walking for 5 minutes at El Portillo yesterday in full sunshine it felt more like mid 20s.

So far today it looks much as predicted across most of the island. It’s bright with sunny spells but there’s also a lot of cloud around. The cloud is above Teide, which usually means most of the island will be experiencing similar weather.
