You’d think that walking down a ravine towards the sea would be straightforward, right?
Wrong as two visitors to Tenerife found out last week when they strayed from the path in the Masca Barranco and found themselves hopelessly lost.
Most of the route through the Masca Barranco is quite obvious, especially if keeping an eye out for helpful cairns at spots where the path can become a bit ambiguous. But there are a couple of areas where the ravine branches off into other deep ravines where, who knows, there might be still Guanches living.
The couple contacted the emergency services (112 – a useful number to know) late afternoon to say they were lost and had run out of water.
Luckily apart from mild dehydration both were found to be okay when they were rescued by the local fire service.
However, these types of incidents should serve as warnings to anyone planning on walking on Tenerife. Always be prepared. Even on the most well hoofed routes on Tenerife there can be scope for taking a wrong turning.
