Weather Forecast for Tenerife from 10th to 16th March 2014
On the whole, it’s looking like it should be a very sunny week most places on Tenerife with the north forecast to see the most sunshine and the east the least. There should be some rain in most parts at some point this afternoon but nothing serious. We’ve said this before and no doubt we’ll say it again but when rain is forecast, it is forecast for somewhere within a municipality and those stretch all the way into the mountains. So if you’re lying on a beach and haven’t felt a drop, it doesn’t mean the Spanish Met Office was wrong. Although the forecast for Tenerife is good, there is a yellow alert for heavy rain at the start of the week on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. This strange weather we’ve been experiencing this winter across the Canary Islands looks as though it isn’t quite over.

The forecast for last week didn’t quite match up with the reality. For parts of the week there was a south/north and east/south west divide with the east and south west enjoying the best of the sunshine even on days when the south and north were covered with cloud. Overall the south fared better than the north in the sunshine stakes. The sun was a rare visitor in the north until the weekend when things brightened up considerably. Ironically, although it wasn’t good sunbathing weather, conditions were great for carnival with no heavy rain ruining events as can sometimes be the case. As carnival in Puerto de la Cruz finished after a wonderfully sunny afternoon on Sunday, the heavens opened during early evening. The weather gods had their timings slightly wrong for a change.

Weather in South Tenerife –  In theory, apart from today when there is 100% chance of rain, it should be a very sunny week in the south of Tenerife. There could be thick cloud on Thursday afternoon and all of Saturday but apart from that it’s sunshine. Temperatures will be on the lowish side but that still means a lovely 19/21C.

Weather in North Tenerife – Similarly, after a 100% chance of rain at some point this afternoon, it should be a lovely and sunny week in the north of Tenerife with temperatures of 16/19C in the shade.

Weather in East Tenerife –  The east is looking like the cloudiest part of the island next week which is highly unusual. Although the sun will shine every day apart from Friday and Saturday, there will be a substantial amount of cloud as well. Temperatures should mirror those of the north.

Weather in South West Tenerife – The south west reflects the south with a cloudy and rainy Monday afternoon followed by a sunny week (except Saturday which will be cloudy). Temperatures will range between 19/22C.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater – It will be sunshine in Teide National Park all week except for some cloudy spells over the weekend. Although Monday and Tuesday will see sunny days, there could be rainfall during the night in the crater that could turn into snow showers further up Mount Teide. It will be an extremely chilly start to the week at altitude (feeling like -17C with wind chill factor on the summit) and it will also be very windy so the cable car may not be operating today. Temperatures will range between 3C and 10C in the crater and -6C and 0C on the summit.
