The Weather in Tenerife 28th February to 6th March

Spanish forecasters are on a roll at the moment; their predictions for weather on Tenerife were once again almost right on the mark. Most of Tenerife saw a mix of sun and cloud throughout the week before the weekend ended on a gloriously sunny note. There were no real spells of prolonged rain and the rain that did fall, mainly in the north, tended to be at night. Whilst the north experienced more rain, the south east experienced quite windy weather; good for the windsurfers out there but it did cool temps a bit. The forecasters also got the temperatures right. Althought in the sunshine it felt lovely and warm, in the shade it felt a cool-ish 18C during some days. Temperatures were much the same in all coasts. At least this year carnival weekend on Tenerife got off to a dry start with clear skies and twinkling stars smiling on the revellers at the street parties in Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz.

Carnival on Tenerife hits its full stride this week, so it should come as no surprise to seasoned veterans that a mix of sun cloud and the ubiquitous carnival rain is predicted for every day wherever you are on Tenerife. The good news is the place with the least chance of rain is the capital Santa Cruz on the day of the Coso Apoteosis (closing parade – it’s a technical term as carnival doesn’t actually stop after it).

Temperatures are set to stay around 20/21C during the day. It’s not the best week for Tenerife weather, but with sun forecast for every day as well it’s likely that showers will be short lived and probably at night.

To put Tenerife’s weather into perspective have a look at our carnival photo from Saturday night’s street party in Santa Cruz. How often, even at the height of summer, could you dress like that at midnight in the UK?

Weather in South Tenerife – A mix of sun and cloud with a 50 to 85% chance of rain every day. Temperatures should remain around 21C.

Weather in North Tenerife – A mix of sun and cloud with a 60 to 90% chance of rain every day. Temperatures should remain around 21C.

Weather in East Tenerife – A mix of sun and cloud with between a 30 to 85% chance of rain every day. Temperatures should remain around 21C.

Weather in South West Tenerife
– A mix of sun and cloud with a 50 to 85% chance of rain every day. Temperatures should remain around 21C.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater
– A sunny week in the Mount Teide crater except for Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. It’s a completely different outlook for Mount Teide’s summit which should have snow showers on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Before the sun returns for the weekend. Temperatures should average around 4C in the crater and -7C on the summit.

It is also going to be a windy week on Mount Teide’s slopes, so check that the cable car is operating before planning any trips up Spain’s highest mountain.

At this moment the cable car is operating normally.

So far today it’s pretty much as predicted; a mix of sun and cloud across Tenerife.

Pic: Carnaval open air party at midnight – still a bit too early for most carnival goers.
