The Weather in Tenerife 7th March to 13th March

Well we got what it said on the packet and surprise, surprise a couple of carnaval events were cancelled in Santa Cruz and in Güímar, helping keep the tradition alive. One wit in Santa Cruz suggested on Twitter that rain should be included in the official carnaval agenda in future. As it happened much of the rain fell at night as we expected and most days enjoyed a lot of sunshine. From reports in the south of Tenerife it didn’t even rain that much although it was a blustery week (reports about the weather in the south vary considerably which could either be perspective or the fact that Tenerife’s weather can be very different even within a couple of kilometres). The north coast experienced quite heavy rain showers during most nights but very little wind and it was a beautiful day for the Puerto de la Cruz carnaval closing parade on Saturday.

The Weather in Tenerife 14th March to 20th March

With a yellow alert in place from yesterday for rain across Tenerife it has been a dreary start to the week. The alert continues for the north coast and higher ground until Tuesday morning. After that there should be lots of sunny spells with the weather and the temperatures improving as the week continues. There is also an alert for snowfall in higher areas so there’s a possibility that the roads to Mount Teide might be closed until this storm front passes. It’s not the weather for walking on Tenerife, but that will change within the next couple of days.

Temperatures are a quite cool 17/18C today rising to around the mid 20s by the weekend which looks as though it could be a glorious one.

Weather in South Tenerife – Rainy today, a mix of sun and cloud between Tuesday and Wednesday and sunny for the rest of the week. Temperatures should rise from 18C at the start of the week to 24C by the weekend.

Weather in North Tenerife – Rainy today, a mix of sun and cloud between Tuesday and Thursday and sunny from Friday to Sunday. Temperatures should rise from 17C at the start of the week to 23C by the weekend.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater
– There should be snow showers in the Mount Teide crater today and then it will be sunny all week. Snow showers are also forecast for the summit until Wednesday afternoon when the sun will come out and stay for the rest of the week. It will also be a very windy start to the week on Teide’s slopes. Temperatures in the crater will range from -1C at the start of the week rising to 11C as the week progresses. On the summit it’s an icy -13C rising to a positively balmy -1C by the end of the week.

At this moment the cable car isn’t operating.

So far today the weather started out as predicted; dull, dreary and wet. The south west even experienced the rarity of a hailstones shower this morning. It looks like the sun is starting to come out in the south.
