The Weather in Tenerife 6th February to 12th February
Again weather forecasters were close to getting it right. The south of Tenerife experienced a lot of sunshine and some decent rainfall in places by the end of the week whilst the north was mainly cloudy with some sunny spells but with less rain than the south. The rain that fell was what we call ‘dirty rain’ because it’s full of sand from North Africa. Our prediction that the breeze would be a cool one was spot on. The wind from the north east that affected mainly south east and south west areas was as cold a wind as I’ve experienced on Tenerife and walking in the south west was like walking in the UK.
The predicted week of snow on Mount Teide simply didn’t materialise and not a snowdrop fell.

The Weather Forecast for Tenerife from 13th February to 19th February
It could be a bit of a mixed bag across Tenerife this week with sunny weather starting and ending the week in many places but with mid-week being unsettled and rainy almost everywhere. Carnaval on Tenerife starts big time at the end of the week; a sure sign that it will definitely rain. Once again snowfall is predicted on Teide… but will it actually happen. The good news is that it looks as though this tail end of the cold front affecting Europe will shift and after a cool Tuesday, temperatures will rise slightly as the week progresses.

Weather in South Tenerife – This week will see typically mixed February conditions with sunny weather bookending the week. The sun will shine from Monday to Tuesday afternoon and then from Friday to Sunday. In-between will be mostly cloudy Thursday looking as though rain is unavoidable. There’s a 5-45% possibility of rain from Wednesday to Sunday. Once again it will be a very breezy weekend but this time with temperature rising slightly from 19C at the start of the week to 20C by the end.

Weather in North Tenerife – Like the south, the north will start sunny and, also like the south, cloud will roll in on Tuesday afternoon. After that it will be cloudy with some sunny spells for the rest of the week. There’s a 5-65% chance of rain from Wednesday onwards with Wednesday and Thursday looking a good bet for a decent downpour. Temperatures could be anything from 15-17C in the shade.

Weather in East Tenerife – Same as the north except there might be more sunshine throughout the week. There’s a 15-65% possibility of rain from Wednesday till the end of the week. Temperatures will be around 19/20C in the shade.

Weather in South West Tenerife
– A similar story as the south; a mainly sunny week with a mix of sun and cloud from Tuesday afternoon onwards and a 5 to 50% chance of rain between Wednesday and Sunday. Temperatures should be about 22/23C in the shade.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater – It should be a sunny week in the crater except for Thursday which will be cloudy with a chance of rain. The summit of Mount Teide is a different story with snow forecast from Tuesday night through to Thursday night. Apart from that it will be unbroken sunshine. Temperatures in the crater will vary from 2 to 7C and from -1 to a chilly -10C on the summit.

So far today webcams around Tenerife show a lot of cloud across Tenerife with a sunny oasis in the La Orotava Valley.

Pic: Despite the cool wind (positively chilly at altitude when the sun hides behind a cloud) the almond blossom in bloom above Santiago del Teide bring warmth and colour to the countryside. Anyone planning on walking on Tenerife this week should make a date with them, they’re looking good.
